Background

The RN to BSN Nursing Program was established in 1991 and has experienced continuous growth. The faculty is dedicated to excellence in nursing, nursing education and the improvement of health care through individual, family and community care.

A masters of science in nursing (MSN) program was begun in the fall of 2005. The goal of the MSN program is to prepare professional registered nurses for an advanced level of service and certification in positions of education and leadership across health care settings in the 21st century.

History

In 1991, the RN-BSN program admitted its first students to the program designed for the working registered nurse to complete a bachelor's degree in one year. Since that time, many nurses have completed the BSN degree at LCU. These nurses fulfill a variety of nursing roles providing compassionate care to the patients of the West Texas area and beyond.

In 2005, the MSN program admitted its inaugural class of 30 students to a 35 hour blended leadership/education program designed to prepare nurses to excel in nursing education, administration and leadership.

Today, we embark on a new chapter of nursing eduction with the creation of the partnership with the Covenant School of Nursing. This partnership will benefit the Covenant student towards accomplishment of the BSN degree with an almost seamless transition to LCU. The strength of this partnership is the ability of the Covenant graduate to easily complete the BSN requirements as they work full time in only 2-3 semesters. The outcome is a highly marketable nurse with strong clinical experience and the advanced nursing education in theory, community health and leadership/management.
