Job description

Major Duties:
-- Maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications.
-- Maintain rock wall safety certification.
-- Monitor wall safety practices while working.
-- Manage all equipment necessary to setup and take down the climbing wall.
-- Provide instruction for belay lessons and belay checks.
-- Provide First Aid if necessary.
-- Set boulder problems and top rope routes.
-- Keeps wall, storage closets, and wall area clean, safe, and organized.
-- Give copies of current certifications to the Director of Recreational Life for your file.
-- Wear proper uniform at all times.
-- Wear name badge at all times, uniform shirt (tucked in), and pants or shorts with athletic shoes.
-- No jeans, jean shorts, sweat pants, cut off shorts or pants, or leggings.
-- Arrive at work on time.
-- Follow time sheet procedures.
-- Know, adhere and enforce LCU Fitness Center rules and policies.
-- Provide a safe and clean environment for members by performing cleaning and maintenance duties as assigned.
-- Check for new memos with program updates, general announcements, etc.
-- Be on the floor and available to members at all times. Smile and greet each member by name. Learn their names if you don’t know them. Member service is priority #1. Present information to members in a clear and concise manner.
-- If things are slow, clean, clean, clean!
-- Must be able to lift at least 45 pounds on a daily basis.
-- Make a serious effort to be busy. Your work shift is not the time to catch up on homework or read. You may boulder, but only when no participants are on the wall.
-- Communicate issues, negative or positive to your direct supervisor.
-- Do not use your cell phone on the floor.
-- Maintain a safe environment and monitor members safety.
-- Follow procedures to report repair services as needs on equipment.
-- Record all accident/incident reports, and participant statistics, etc. as required by your supervisor.
-- Maintain a positive, cooperative, professional relationship with staff and participants/members.
-- Possess excellent member relation and customer service skills.
-- Work with supervisor to maintain and increase facility quality.
-- Complete other special projects as assigned by your supervisor.
-- Attend mandatory staff meetings, evaluations, and trainings.

Job requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
-- Be mature.
-- Demonstrated self-initiative and eagerness to take on responsibility without direct supervision.
-- Be respectful of your counterparts.
-- Knowledge of setting bouldering problems and top rope routes.
-- Knowledge of rock climbing equipment.
-- An ability to teach skills, a positive sense of humor, and a sense of adventure.
-- Knowledge and experience in belay systems and uses.
-- Knowledge and experience in climbing techniques.
-- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
-- Leading and instructing groups of 5-25 people.
-- Be able to answer questions concerning equipment.
-- Be patient with customers.
-- Good judgment.
-- Must possess reliable and flexible work habits.
Education and Experience:
-- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
-- Must have taken rock climbing at LCU.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:
-- Stand for extended periods of time.
-- Must be able to lift, push and pull 45 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
-- Must be able to project clear instructions vocally.
-- Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
-- Will be subject to working at heights up to 60 feet.
-- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
