Major Duties:
-- Learn the rules and regulations for NCAA and NIRSA regarding the sport being refereed.
-- Offer fair, unbiased decisions in the sport being refereed.
-- Provide leadership and positive representation for the Intramural Program and the Student Affairs Department.
-- Provide expertise in the sport at hand.
-- Attend scheduled meetings with all intramural directors.
-- Must be able to provide good judgment and leadership in tense and competitive situations.
-- Attend required trainings, planning sessions and meetings for sport being refereed.
-- Provide a positive and honest attitude to all Intramural participants, referees and directors.
-- Provide representation for the Intramural program with the utmost dignity.
-- Provide equipment set up and take down.
-- Arrive at intramural event minimum of 10 minutes prior to start time making sure all equipment is order.
-- Control attitude problems of players that may develop during intramural game.
-- Record all point totals for each sport and report to Dir of Rec Life.
-- Keep track of intramural equipment assigned to sports under director’s responsibility.
-- Avoid academic class conflicts which interfere with sports for which director is responsible.
-- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
-- Understanding of the basic sport, game, or activity being refereed.
-- Be mature.
-- Be respectful of your intramural counterparts.
-- Control situations on or around playing fields.
-- Possess knowledge of intramural rules and team sports.
-- Be able to answer questions concerning eligibility or clarification of rules.
Education and Experience:
-- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
-- Prior referee experience a plus, but not required.
-- Two (2) years experience in the sport at hand, either as a player or referee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:
-- Must be able to move up and down playing field/surface.
-- Must be able to project clear instructions vocally.
-- Must be able to lift, push and pull 35 pounds.
