Honor's Societies

Alpha Chi Honor Society

MISSION

 

Alpha Chi Honor Society is a national coeducational academic honor society. Since 1922 its purpose has been to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction.

 

QUALIFICATION

 

Juniors and seniors in the top 10% of their class, with a GPA of at least 3.75 may apply for membership in Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Members enjoy a lifetime membership and special recognition upon graduation. The LCU chapter meets for a candle-lighting induction and elections in the fall, and a year-end gathering in the spring.

Kappa Delta Pi

HISTORY

The Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation, founded in 1980, provides a variety of scholarships and grant programs for members. Awarding funds for academic study is the primary purpose of the Foundation. Annually, the Foundation along with KDP chapters award $80,000 in scholarships.

 

MISSION STATEMENT

Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, is dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education. The Society as a community of scholars pledged to worthy ideals: Recognizes scholarship and excellence in education, Promotes the development and dissemination of worthy educational ideas and practices, Enhances the continuous growth and leadership of its diverse membership, Fosters inquiry and reflection on significant educational issues, and Maintains a high degree of professional fellowship.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be eligible as an graduate or undergraduate member of Kappa Delta Pi qualifications must be meet.

  • Have no less than final-term sophomore standing equivalent of at least 50 semester hours by the end of the term prior to the time of initiation.
  • Have at least 6 hours of professional education courses completed.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.33 or higher for all course work completed at an institution of higher learning.
  • Exemplify worthy educational ideals
  • Express an intention of continuing in the field of education.
  • Serve on at least one committee.
  • Initiate Requirement: Help sponsor Reading is Fundamental Week by purchasing $10.00 in K-3 books. Note: Through being a sponsor of this event, the initiate is granted the privilege of wearing the KDP honor cord at the graduation ceremony.

Student Honor's Advisory Council

MISSION

To uphold the mission statement of Lubbock Christian University and the University Honors Program; to be a body of students that works to further our program at Lubbock Christian University, in Lubbock, and around the world.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Students in the University Honor's Program also have the option to be members of the Student Honor's Council. As part of the Student Honor's Council, members have the opportunity to sponsor campus events and activities throughout the year. Examples of recent events include the Student Forum Series and Creative Arts Week.
