Bachelor of Arts in Music

The B.A. in Music includes courses in Music Theory, Music History, Music Literature, Language Diction, Conducting, Private Lessons, and Performing Ensembles, with available emphases in voice, piano, harpsichord, guitar, brass, woodwinds, and percussion. The graduate with this degree may plan to open a private music studio, begin a performance career, or apply to graduate school. Degree Requirements

 

Bachelor of Music in Music Education

When added to the B.A. degree, the all-level teaching certificate qualifies the graduate to teach music for grades K-12 in Texas public schools, private schools, or in a private studio. Required courses in education with a semester of student-teaching in area public schools give graduates a strong basis for a career as a music educator for elementary music as well as for middle school or high school choir or band. Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Business Emphasis

This degree combines the areas of music and business administration. Courses include a departmental core of Art and Communication classes, while the supporting classes include twenty-four hours of business courses such as Accounting and Marketing. Graduates may pursue careers in music publishing or retail, artist management, marketing, or arts administration. An internship in a local music organization at the end of the degree gives the student practical experience. Degree Requirements

 

Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Pre-Music Therapy Emphasis

Students pursuing this degree will take music courses plus courses in Psychology, Social Work, and Biology. After graduation, students can pursue the Certification for Music Therapists at an approved university. Certified Music Therapists can find careers in public schools, hospitals, nursing homes, substance abuse programs, correctional facilities, and pain/stress management clinics.
