Department: Communications and Fine Arts Position Description: This instruction position assists in preparing students for a BA in Art for Art Education.The B.A. in Art Education is Lubbock Christian University's "art heaviest"; degree and includes 48 credits of art courses in Art History, Art Education, studio Art (including computer-based Art courses), and Art Theory and Criticism. The Department of Communication/Fine Arts collaborates with the Department of Education to prepare the Art Education major for teacher certification for the K-12 Art class. Academic requirements include student teaching and preparing a senior exhibition. Students with the degree in Art Education teach in public and private schools and prepare for graduate work in Museum Science or in Art Education

Personal Info

 Sara is from the Mescalero New Mexico Apache Indian reservation and has lived in Lubbock since 1990. She is married to John Perry White and has two daughters, Madison and Sidney. She is an artist educator and researcher and enjoys community involvement through the Fine Arts. She is a firm believer in student centered teaching and creating a safe community for her students to explore, discuss and create. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts –Studio from Texas Tech University with a specialty in Painting and went on to integrate her art into the field of education and received a Master's Degree In Education- Language and Literacy. She is now in the dissertation editing stage of completing a doctoral degree in Fine Art in Critical Theory and Artistic Practice. This interdisciplinary degree has allowed her to combine her passion for the Arts into interdisciplinary education, pedagogy and Native American female social justice issues. In the artistic community she participates in various juried exhibits of her art and collaborates with other artists for community outreach programs.

Latest News

Sara White has collaborated with the Lubbock Arts Alliance and Covenant Women's and Children's Hospital to create a new program called ARTventures. Sara created the monthly curriculum and artist-in-residency activities funded by LAA and CWCH to be implemented with the pediatric patients during their stay in the hospital. Artists and new educators create and display artwork made by the young patients as a recreational way to help the healing process.

She was recently juried into the Take In the Local Color Artists' Studio tour 2012 for her art studio and her art work in three art areas of mixed media, jewelry and painting. This event is sponsored by the Lubbock Arts Alliance, Civic Lubbock, The Lubbock Cultural District and a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts. www.lubbockstudiotour.org

Sara is currently a board member of Lubbock Christian's Friends of the Arts Committee, founded in 2009, which promotes and provides for further development of Fine Arts programs on the LCU campus. assisting Musical, visual and theatrical arts on campus and within the LCU community. www.lcu.edu/support-lcu/friends-of-the-arts.html
