Our Counselors

The Counseling Center is well staffed by caring individuals who have the client's best interest in mind. The counselors are licensed professionals, or master's level graduate students under the supervision of the Director.

Department: Counseling Center Position Description: provide counseling for those students who may be struggling with:
  • academic pressures
  • addiction
  • family conflicts
  • relationship difficulties
  • career indecision
  • spiritual struggles
  • substance abuse
The LCU Counseling Center focuses on helping students function and develop in the stimulating and stressful environment of college. Problems range in intensity from relatively mild distress to severe and chronic psychological disorders.

Personal Info

John received his bachelors degree in Youth Ministry from Abilene Christian University in 2001 and earned a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at Capella University in 2012. He moved to Lubbock in 2002 when he began his work with Lubbock County Juvenile Justice, most recently as an Assistant Facility Administrator. John married his college sweetheart, Jessica, a Lubbock native, in 2000 and they have since been blessed with three children: Ethan, Nolan, and Aubrey. John absolutely adores his family and enjoys every minute spent with them. John stands firmly on the promise that God comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves received from our Father (2 Corinthians 1:4).
