Dr. Bustillos holds a secondary appointment in the Saint Louis University School of Public Health. Previously he was Research Professor at the University of Houston Health Law and Policy Institute, and he has received postdoctoral fellowships at the Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Bustillos has published a monograph for The Institute for the Medical Humanities and peer-reviewed articles in numerous journals including the Journal of Law, Medicine, & Ethics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, the Society of Clinical Research Associates Journal, and Genome Research. He is currently working on a multi-million dollar research project based at Baylor College of Medicine to eliminate health disparities in clinical trials. At Saint Louis University, Dr. Bustillos teaches courses in public health ethics, informed consent and surrogate decision-making, medical humanities, and cross-cultural understanding in the clinical context.
