Dr. Byars is a National Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Certified Group group fitness instructor. Her counseling specialties include substance abuse, eating disorders, postpartum depression, family and group counseling, and exercise psychology. In addition to a private paractice, she has run two fitness programs in Lubbock geared towards the mental wellness of women. Her book is entitled "The effectiveness of group counseling and exercise in the lives of graduate students". She has also contributed dozens of columns to local publications about the mental and wellness of moms with young children.
Dr. Byars research interests include group counseling, eating disorders, postpartum depression, addictions and other women's issues.
Dr. Byars enjoys teaching because she is committed to the field of counseling and the self growth of counselors. She believes counseling changes lives and the best counselors are willing to work on themselves and their own growth.
She is married to Tim Byars in the Humanities Department. They have three wonderful children Laura, Jacob, and Mary.
