Professional Practice: JoAnn has practiced nursing in acute and long term care, school and home health. For the past sixteen years she has been on the faculty at Lubbock Christian University teaching in the RN/BSN and MSN programs and has served as Dept. Chairman. Working with students and watching them grow and taking part in interdisciplinary research projects that contribute to best practices bring her great joy.
Research: Her research has been in the area of health promotion of adolescents (diabetes and chronic disease prevention), in particular, how technology, the WWW and most recently cell phones, can be used to measure and promote fruit and vegetable consumption in adolescents. Two career highlights were when she and her oldest daughter co-presented a poster on the subject at the International Fruit and Vegetable Summit, co-sponsored by the World Health Organization in Paris, France and when she and her youngest daughter travelled to Ottawa to speak about the value of Inter- Cultural Dialog on Parliament Hill.
Personal: JoAnn and Jesse Long have two beautiful daughters and two fabulous sons in law. She enjoys taking and teaching Bible classes, walking and traveling to just about anywhere!
