One of my favorite quotes is by Nelson Mandela and states that "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I truly believe that knowledge of ourselves and the world around us shapes and molds us and enables us to make a difference.
I am currently in the process of completing my doctoral degree in Public Service Leadership at Capella University. I understand both the rewards and challenges of online learning, and I believe that a student who has dedication and self-discipline can thrive in an online environment.
My clinical interests include grief, trauma, life transition issues, and women's issues. I also have an interest in disaster mental health and have had the honor of serving survivors in the aftermath of the Tuscaloosa tornados, the Moore tornados as well as the Japan tsunami. I have also been on mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Ethiopia and will be traveling to Kenya in June.
Education comes from within; you get it by struggle and effort and thought. -Napoleon Hill
In every class I aim to challenge my students. I believe, as Napoleon Hill said, that education takes work, dedication, and at times failure, but at the end of the hard journey a student can look back and be proud of what he or she has accomplished.
I believe that LCU graduates have a understanding of both their field and their faith, and this gives them a unique perspective in their careers. An LCU graduate will be prepared to contribute to their field in a meaningful way.
