LCU Recognized as a Great Place to WorkJul. 31, 2013
The Chronicle of Higher Education recently recognized Lubbock Christian University on their list of Great Colleges to Work for 2013. This is The Chronicle’s sixth annual survey in which they evaluate university employee’s answers on 12 recognition categories. Ninety-seven colleges across the country were recognized on their 2013 list and 13 of those colleges were listed from Texas alone.
This is the first year for LCU to make the Great Colleges list. LCU was listed and recognized for performing well in the area of Supervisor or Departmental-Chair Relationships and in the area of Work/Life Balance. The Chronicle expands to say that an outstanding LCU feature is that LCU President Tim Perrin regularly attends campus chapel service four days a week, along with the entire student body and faculty and staff at LCU, making him more accessible to those who might not normally have a chance to interact with the chief executive.
“Lubbock Christian University is blessed with a remarkably talented and dedicated faculty and staff,” says President Perrin. “There is a strong sense of a shared purpose and deep commitment to a common mission. We give thanks for the Chronicle’s affirmation that LCU is a great place to work.”
The Chronicle explains on their website that this survey shows the importance of respect and work-life balance to LCU employees. For many employees, job satisfaction no longer depends on promotions, tenure, raises, and publications. Colleges are now using transparent leadership, and flexible work schedules to improve their work environment.
The 2013 survey was based on responses from nearly 45,000 people at 300 institutions -- both 4 year and 2 year colleges and universities, private and public. All accredited institutions in the United States with an enrollment of at least 500 were invited to participate in this survey. Each college was asked to submit a list of full-time employees randomly selected across four categories: administration, faculty, exempt professional staff, and non-exempt staff.
To receive recognition in the area of Supervisor or Department-Chair Relationship, the survey reflects that supervisors or chairs solicit ideas and make expectations clear. For the Work/Life Balance recognition, the survey reflects that university policies give employees flexibility to manage their lives on the job and at home.
