Tom Brokaw’s representatives have informed Lubbock Christian University that Mr. Brokaw is unable to fulfill his October 3 speaking commitment for the university’s “An Evening with….” series because of a recent serious back injury.  After careful consideration of the available options, the university has reluctantly decided to cancel LCU’s An Evening Honoring the Greatest Generation with Tom Brokaw scheduled for October 3, 2013.  Tom Brokaw has shared his disappointment with the university, stating: “I regret that I won’t be able to be with you on October 3rd for the Biennial Benefit Dinner for LCU.”

“We are deeply grateful to the many LCU friends and supporters who have provided support for this significant event, and we are disappointed to cancel it,” said L. Timothy Perrin, LCU President. “We are quickly moving ahead with plans for our next event in the “An Evening with…” dinner series, and we hope to be able to share more information about those plans in the near future. We look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that the community has come to expect from these gatherings.”

This event was the fourth benefit dinner for the university featuring a nationally known speaker since the “An Evening with…” series was introduced in 2007 with General Colin Powell.  Continuing the biennial tradition, the university hosted President George W. Bush in 2009 and former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice in 2011.  This series has raised funds for student scholarships.

The university has prepared refunds for all those who have purchased sponsorships, tables, and individual tickets.  Refunds will be returned within the next few business days in the same way they were paid – by check or by credit to the bank card originally used for the purchase.
