Eleven Undergrads Selected to Present at National Conference

Students Intern for Semester in DC Kathleen Wyly
Jan. 22, 2014

Three Lubbock Christian University students left Wednesday morning, January 22, to spend their spring semester pursuing academic internships in Washington, D.C. The students are Senior Accounting major Merveille Menoh Yango, Junior Business Administration major Nora Barcenas, and December graduate Pre-Dentistry major Cassandra Coppedge. Both Merveille and Nora will be working at StudySparkz, an adult learner tutoring agency in the area. Cassandra will be working at the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

These students join a legacy of 32 previous interns, bringing the total participants that have been a part of the LCU Washington program to 35. This unique opportunity to study at the nation’s capital is a part of the university’s mission to be student centered.

It is the LCU faculty’s commitment to that mission that makes such opportunities possible. Specifically for LCU Washington, Dr. Stacy Patty has been integral to the success and has made extraordinary efforts to secure internships of significance for our students.

“I am most pleased that LCU students are taking advantage of this life-changing opportunity,” says Dr. Patty, director of The University Honors Program. “There simply is no other program like it, no other college or university with such a strong scholarship package, no other professional entry semester to compare. LCU Washington is poised to become a premier LCU offering that has the potential to change the world through engaged Christian leadership. I am thankful to our donors who make this opportunity possible.”

LCU was recognized as the “Private University of the Year” (2013) last fall by The Washington Center. This recognition was given to LCU out of over 450 universities across the nation, and is an indication of the success the LCU Washington program is experiencing at placing students in internships as well as an indication of the quality students LCU sends to the nation’s capital each semester.
