LCU Achieves Record Enrollment

Dr. Lemley Invites Students to Make History Kyle Bullock
Oct. 3, 2012

“These are great days,” Lubbock Christian University’s fourth president, Dr. Steven Lemley, said in Monday’s speech during chapel. “(Inauguration Week) has a lot more to do with you students than you might think.”

September 27, 2012 marks a monumental day in LCU's history - the inauguration of the university's sixth president, L. Timothy Perrin. Dr. Lemley, having been LCU's fourth president for a term of 11 years, and a part of the LCU Board of Trustees for 19 years, invited students during Monday's chapel to be a part of this historic event.

As Dr. Lemley noted, university organizations are among some of the oldest organizations in U.S. history. While the 55-year-old LCU may be young compared to the likes of Harvard (to celebrate their 376th birthday this year), Lubbock Christian University is still striving toward excellence in presidential leadership as well as strengthening our determination in spirituality, he said.

"The inauguration of Tim Perrin marks a new beginning for Lubbock Christian University," Dr. Lemley told the students. "You will never forget this inauguration in all your life."

As Dr. Lemley (President, 1982-93) concluded his remarks regarding next week's presidential inauguration, he presented a video from his own inauguration in 1982, featuring a young, student body president, Tim Perrin, as he introduced Dr. Lemley to the podium. As Perrin noted over 30 years ago, the president of LCU chiefly has a tradition of upholding an atmosphere of leadership that is led by the Lord and second, is a friend of the students.

Dr. Lemley concluded his speech by encouraging the student body to consider themselves in the place of Tim Perrin all those years ago, when he was, no doubt, unaware that he would one day become president of the university himself. Dr. Lemley offered the same possibility to the students today.

"That is why the inauguration next week might have more to do with you than you might think. It is about your future," Dr. Lemley stated.

The inauguration of the sixth president of LCU, L. Timothy Perrin, will be September 27, 2012 on the LCU campus. All of the student body is encouraged to take part in this exciting event as well as other events throughout the entire week, beginning with the Area Wide Worship Service and Prayer of Blessing scheduled for 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 23rd in the McDonald Moody Auditorium.
