Lubbock Christian University invites applications for a Chairman position in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, which is to begin in August of 2014. Lubbock Christian University, founded in 1957, is a comprehensive institution of higher education associated with the churches of the Christ. The campus is located in Lubbock, Texas (pop. 270,000), which is the economic center of the Texas South Plains. Approximately 2000 undergraduate and graduate students attend LCU.

Position Description. The Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences consists of 5 full-time and 3 part-time faculty members and offers the following programs of study: Exercise Science (Bachelor of Science) with emphasis in Exercise and Health Promotion, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Occupational Therapy, Athletic Training, Outdoor Adventure and Resource Management, and Sport and Exercise Psychology; Physical Education (Bachelor of Science); and Sport Management (Bachelor of Science). This Department additionally offers a minor in coaching and prepares students for state licensure in Athletic Training. The duties of this position include: teaching nine hours of exercise science courses; advising and mentoring students; serving on departmental and university committees; coordinating the affairs of the department. Some examples of specific Chairman-related functions include but are not limited to the following: promotion of vision for the department, evaluation of faculty/staff and adjuncts, curriculum review, budgetary submission and management, class scheduling, and promotion of growth and development.

Required Qualifications include an earned doctorate or a MS with a commitment to pursue a doctorate in exercise science or a closely related field (biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor behavior, etc…); a willingness to uphold the values of the university; and committed membership in the Church of Christ.

Preferred Qualifications include previous teaching and administrative experience, at the college level, and interest in promotion of undergraduate research and development of human performance lab facilities.
