Provost

Dr. Rod Blackwood

A graduate of one of the early classes of Lubbock Christian University, Dr. Rod Blackwood ('63) now oversees all aspects of academics, serving as Provost and Chief Academic Officer. His M.S. and Ph.D. in agriculture from Texas Tech University provided him the opportunity to work with young people who chose to major in natural sciences and agriculture.

Early in his time at LCU, he and his wife Sandra ('65) along with their children lived in Johnson Hall, serving as dorm parents to over 200 young college-aged men. Perhaps that experience more than any otherr prepared him to oversee the faculty of the university.

The Blackwood family has a long history and heritage with the university. Sandra has retired from the School of Education and their son, Nathan ('95) serves as head baseball coach. Their daughter, Shawna Gomez ('92) is also a graduate of LCU and remains active with the campus and its students since her husband, Steve ('88), serves as the head women's basketball coach.

Dr. Blackwood has served as the LCU provost and Chief Academic Officer since 1999. He also serves as an elder of the Broadway Church of Christ.
