  General Information

Arrangement
Approximately 122,000 book volumes are housed in open stacks for users to browse and select materials. The call number is the location symbol for the books, which are classified according to the Library of Congress classification system, a combination of letters and numbers. The key to locating books is the online catalog.

1st floor - Reference books, books classified HV-Z, Children's literature, curriculum K-12 textbooks, current periodicals, microforms & art prints.
2nd floor - Books classified D-HT
3rd floor - Books classified A-C
4th floor - Back issues of paper periodicals (bound and unbound)

Circulation Policies
The Circulation Desk is the primary service point. Students are encouraged to ask for assistance here, at the Periodicals Desk, or the library offices. Your ID is required to borrow materials. Students may checkout regular circulating books for three weeks. Graduate student checkout is the end of their class semester. Renewals are available via the online catalog, or by returning to the Circulation Desk. Fines are 10 cents per day per book. Reserve items are chosen by the teacher and have short loan periods or no checkout. Reserve fines are 25 cents per day per book. Fines are cut in half if paid when the book is returned. Fines owed are due by noon the last class day of each semester. Fines of $1.00 or more are doubled and applied to the student's account by the Business Office. This amount must be paid along with any other fees owed to obtain a transcript. This policy is in effect each enrollment period: semester, summer session, and short course. Lost books are assessed the cost of the book + an inflation fee + a nonrefundable processing fee. If the lost book is returned, the Business Office credits the student account for the book cost. Reference books, periodicals, microforms, and newspapers are in-library use only. Interlibrary loan is available for items not owned by LCU, please refer to the ILL information guide for procedures.

Copiers
Self-service copiers are located in the Circulation and Moody Collection. Students have a copy/printing account accessed by code. Microfilm & microfiche printers cost 10 cents per copy.

Periodicals
The library receives about 580 subscriptions in print and microform. Periodical titles are listed in the online catalog by title with holdings location: current, 4th floor back issues, microfilm or microfiche. All locations are shelved alphabetically by title. Current issues of paper subscriptions are located on the open shelving by the Periodicals Desk. Bound and unbound back issues of paper subscriptions are located on the 4th floor. Microfilm and microfiche titles are located in cabinets in the Moody Collection.  Current lists of subscriptions are attached to research guides.

Online Resources
The online catalog lists all books with author, title, subject and keyword search. Periodical titles are included with holdings listed on the bottom of the full details entry. The Knowledge Portal, a section in the catalog, has quick reference web sites and academic links to sites recommended for student research. The online catalog is available 24/7 except for Wednesday 6-9:00pm for maintenance and when the LCU network is down. Over 100 databases help locate journals, magazines, newspapers and other sources - some include full-text articles. The web page includes access to the online catalog, research guides by topic, staff listings with contact information, and information on how to research. Research guides are also available in print.

Other Information
The Librarians coordinate with the faculty for classroom instruction in library research, as well as giving individual assistance as needed. Library facilities are provided for the use and comfort of the students and faculty. A quiet study area is near the elevator. Water fountain and restrooms are located near the entrance in the Koffee Kup. There is no public or pay telephone.
