The Department of Physical Sciences offers degrees in three major areas: chemistry, mathematics, and engineering. This latter degree is through a cooperative program with Texas Tech University. The overriding goal of the department is to provide the student with a broad exposure to the student's chosen area of study. Both the chemistry and mathematics degrees require a minimum of 35 hours in the field and cover a broad spectrum of both theoretical and practical concerns. Supporting courses in the degrees are intended to develop competence in communication, computer skills, and in the companion fields in physical science.
Students seeking a Bachelor's degree from the Department of Physical Sciences should be able to perform the following:
- Exhibit a general understanding of their chosen field
- Be familiar with the published literature in that field and be able to search it in an efficient manner
- Be able to express themselves well both in written and verbal form in their field
