The graduate nurse practitioner program at Texas Tech University Health Science Center has determined NUR 5312 & NUR 5313 courses at LCU are equivalent to courses taught in their institution and are acceptable for transfer for students wishing to complete a nurse practitioner track in their program.
The Abilene Christian University/Hardin-Simmons University PHSS consortium requires 4 hours of pathophysiology and 4 hours of pharmacotherapeutics. They will accept NUR 5312 & NUR 5313 elective courses from LCU with the addition of an application paper for each course. This will satisfy the extra hour needed for transfer of each course to their FNP program.
Professional Portfolio
All candidates for the master’s degree in nursing will develop a professional e-portfolio over the course of the MSN program. Criteria for development of the professional e-portfolio are presented in NUR 5200 Introduction to Graduate Studies course taken the first semester the student is enrolled in the MSN program. The professional e-portfolio is to be initiated in the first semester of the program and is to be developed further in each course, over the entire course of the graduate program. The professional e-portfolio is to be formally presented to the department faculty as a part of NUR 5310 Education/Leadership Practicum capstone course. The purpose of the professional e-portfolio is for the student to present a synthesis of their graduate course work accomplishments with an emphasis on how they have integrated the advanced concepts into their professional behavior as a nursing educator and leader. How the student has integrated the program’s organizing framework and the program objectives into the advanced roles of educator and leader should be the focus of the professional portfolio and oral presentation to the faculty. The portfolio is to be presented in the last semester of required course work prior to graduation. Satisfactory portfolio development and presentation is required for successful completion of the MSN program.
